Women’s Summer Reading Group
I find summers equal parts restorative and overwhelming! While gaining extra time and making memories with family is wonderful, summer often shifts our regular daily schedules and routines due to travel, missions, school breaks, etc. This can mean Church, worship & even our faith looks different over the summer. For me, in the past I have felt a drought in my daily faith practices, I often return from summer feeling further from God than I want to. Amid the summer chaos, I intentionally set aside a short daily period for dedicated reading or listening to an audiobook. So why not let that reading be inspiring, uplifting and faith-centered? If you feel similarly I’d love for you to join me in a "faith lifting" Women's Summer Reading Group: The FaithLift.
From May 1st through August 31st, we will read two Christian books written by female champions of faith: I Surrender All by Priscilla Shirer and Holier Than Thou: how God's holiness helps us trust him by Jackie Hill Perry. We will read Priscilla's book over May & June, and Jackie’s book over July & August. I will send an optional reading guide/timeline plan, along with monthly prayer and reflection points. We will then have two optional virtual meetings to discuss each book separately: Monday, June 29th, and Monday, August 31st, 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM. Hopefully, these two meetings can be scheduled during a lunchbreak, child quiet-time or a dedicated you moment in the midst of the day!

Colonia Mission Trip
WHAT IS A COLONIA?
The development of Texas colonias dates back to the 1950s. Using agriculturally worthless land, developers created unincorporated subdivisions with little or no infrastructure. Housing is primarily constructed by residents using discarded wood, cardboard or other materials - usually lacking electricity, plumbing and other basic amenities.
WHO IS BUCKNER?
For more than 135 years, Buckner International (www.buckner.org) has been transforming lives through hands-on ministry. In 2002, Buckner International began to provide innovative programming to support vulnerable children and families living in poverty in the colonias along the Texas/Mexico border (www.buckner.org/rio-grande-valley/).
2026 IS OUR THIRTEENTH YEAR
It is our thirteenth year working with Buckner International in the Penitas Colonia, we had a 2-year hiatus with Covid. Each year, beginning in 2011, over 230 Woodlawn and Memorial Baptist Church in Taylor regulars have joined one of the teams to use their gifts and abilities to impact the Penitas Colonia. This is your year to be a part of the Colonia Mission Project!
WHO CAN GO?
This summer’s mission project, June 6-12, is open to adults, families with children (who have completed 1st grade), college-age adults, and high school students who have completed the 9th grade. Children/Students younger than 9th grade will serve on a team with their parent.
