WHAT IS BAPTISM?

Baptism is an outward expression of the inward miracle of one who has been beautifully wrecked by the Gospel. It is a picture to be seen and celebrated by others revealing our restored relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ.

At Woodlawn, we practiced believer’s baptism by immersion (Matthew 3:16, Acts 8:37-38).

GOD’S WORD PAINTS TWO BEAUTIFUL PICTURES
OF WHAT HAPPENS IN BAPTISM

First: “Don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life” Romans 6:3 (see also Colossians 2:1). We are identifying with Jesus’s experience and demonstrating outwardly in our baptism that:

  • We are dying to our old life and the ways of sin

  • We are burying that old life of sin

  • We rise to live the new life

Second: “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ” Galatians 3:27. We are demonstrating by our baptism that we are:

  • Taking off our old clothes of our sinful nature and life style

  • And putting on new clothes of Jesus’ nature and lifestyle

WHO SHOULD BE BAPTIZED?

Anyone who has made a genuine profession of faith in Jesus Christ is encouraged to follow His example (Matthew 3:13-17) and obey His command (Matthew 28:18-20) to be baptized as a public profession of one’s faith in Him.

If you have not made a commitment to follow Jesus, we would love to answer your questions and help you learn more about what it means to be a Christian.

WHEN SHOULD I BE BAPTIZED?

You can schedule your baptism date with one of our pastors. We are able to baptize on almost any Sunday morning.
