PRAY FOR OUR SCHOOLS
The Austin Independent School District board is looking at closing nine schools, some with exemplary ratings, to help make up a $100 million budget gap. However, it has been debated that closing and consolidating neighborhood schools will have immeasurable, long-term costs, and [saveaustinschools.com] believe's there is a better way to trim the budget while putting academic excellence first. Every citizen benefits from preserving neighborhood schools and providing quality education. The task force will present its findings and feedback to the trustees in February. They are expected to vote in March.
Schools currently under consideration for possible closure: Allan Elementary, Barton Hills Elementary, Becker Elementary, Blackshear Elementary, Brooke Elementary, Dawson Elementary, Govalle Elementary, Joslin Elementary, Oak Springs Elementary, Ortega Elementary, Pease Elementary, Sanchez Elementary, Zilker Elementary, Dobie Middle School, Pearce Middle School
Obviously whatever happens is in God's plan. However as a community, we feel it is of upmost importance to stand together to pray for everyone and everything involved.
At Woodlawn Baptist Church, we care for and are praying for our next door neighbor, Joslin Elementary which happens to be on the list of possible school closures.
