“If anyone would come after me, he must . . .” (Matthew 16:24)

 “Go and make disciples . . .” (Matthew 28:19-20)

SERMON #1 (January 4) “Living the Disciples’ Life”

Jesus calls on the church to “make disciples” in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20).  The call to make disciples is the mandate of Jesus, but how are disciples actually made?  To find out how disciples are made, and how you can begin “Living the Disciples Life” please join us for this exciting new sermon series in January 2009.

SERMON #2 (January 11) “The Transformation of a Disciple”

Jesus says in Matthew 16:24 that if anyone wants to follow him they must do three things: deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow him. Denying yourself is Jesus’ way of describing the kind of transformation that a disciple of Jesus must undergo.  Luke’s Gospel adds the words “daily” which stresses the fact that discipleship is not about just becoming a Christian in the past but about “Living the Disciples Life.” To find out more join us January 11.

SERMON #3 (January 18) “The Cost of Discipleship”

For too many people, Christianity has become a “fire insurance policy” through easy-believism some people have falsely come to the conclusion that they can go to heaven because of a religious experience they have had in the past.  This idea false far short of the biblical notion of discipleship. To find out more about what the “Cost of Discipleship” is, please join us January 18th as study Matthew 16:24 in a sermon series on “Living the Disciples Life.”

SERMON #4 (January 25) “The Community which Cultivates Disciples”

When Jesus wanted to change the world, he did not send all the angels of heaven, nor did he train people by the 1000s.  Instead, he took 12 disciples and invested his entire life into them.  Jesus understood that discipleship happens in small groups.  Join us this Sunday, January 25, as we look at biblical idea of discipleship happening within community and as we launch our Small Group ministry at Woodlawn Baptist Church.
